A-CRA at School vs. Clinical Setting

2768 Participants: 2276 received A-CRA in an outside counselor’s office, the remaining 492 saw an A-CRA therapist at their school. The school based group:

  • Earlier intervention—participants had less substance use and behavior problems.

  • More female clients.

  • 24% of adolescents treated in school chose to see a counselor on their own vs. 6% in the clinical setting.

  • School based treatment group spent less time in jail.

  • Interventions provided school staff with a countermeasure when they observe a student beginning to engage in problem behaviors.

  • More cost effective.

  • Lower treatment dropout rate.
